A Philosophy That Gets Us Through Anything

Life constantly throws curve balls.  Whether family, finances, relationships, business, or personal self-doubt, there always seems to be resistance keeping people from living out their purpose and pursuing a life that they were designed to live.  Call it whatever you want, but at the end of the day, there are seeds of greatness placed inside of everyone that constantly remind us that we deserve so much more, so living in defeat is simply not an option.

Over the years we’ve had a lot of “overcoming” that we’ve had to push through. We have certainly seen our fair share of times where we were slowed down by self-doubt, financial struggle, business setbacks, and a multitude of distractions that could take us off our course.  That said, we’d like to take a moment and share with you a personal philosophy that helped us get through it all, and still does to this day.

As you read forward, take note that this is philosophy and a mindset, it is not checklist mentality. It’s simply a set of principles that are core to us, and we try to live by each day.

Every Dark Cloud…

Every Dark Cloud Has A Silver Lining.  This is Kelley speaking here. This is actually something my mother used to tell me all the time.  I can hear her voice now as I type these words. Every time something would go wrong, a situation didn’t work out in my favor, or an obstacle seemed so big that we just didn’t know how to overcome, she’d say to me “Kelley, just remember that every dark cloud has a silver lining”.  Of course, like a normal adolescent, I’d simply roll my eyes, and brush off the “mom fan club”, believing that she was just trying her best to cheer me up. However, she would say it over and over again. Well mom, it stuck, and it works! Thank you!

It wasn’t until I was 20, when I realized this statement my mom had been telling me my whole life was actually biblical.  Through every adversity, there’s a seed of equal or greater benefit. It may not mean much to you reading this right now, and it may be hard to see when you’re in the thick of it.  However, it’s proven itself many times over, and it will for you. This has become the core of who we are. Every dark cloud has a silver lining means that whenever there is something that doesn’t go the way we planned it, there is hope.  Instead of letting it take us off course, we try to take a step back and identify the opportunity in this, or search for what we are supposed to learn through it.

Do Unto Others…

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Funny enough, this is also something that my mother used to say all the time.  She’d warn me of how I treat others, and that I should expect to reap any seeds that I sow. Man, she had some serious wisdom!! (see #3 below)

It’s called the Golden Rule, but ironically enough, it too is biblical! (Matt. 7:12).  This has become a standard in our household, as we raise our children to be caring, kind, and fair siblings, as well as responsible citizens.  We teach them that when we sow seeds, so shall we reap, so why not plant good seeds?

How we treat others, is how we should expect to be treated. Knowing this, we fight to make sure that we plant as many good seeds as possible.  This is true in our family, our relationships, our finances, our business, or just simply when interacting with a stranger. We never know when we will meet a new best friend, or simply make someone’s day amazing.

Our world is far too connected these days to be ignorant of the ramifications of our actions. Everything we do will leave a lasting impression.  It affects how people see our family, our organization, who we are, and the people we represent.

Ask yourself, “What kind of legacy do I want to create?”  Your legacy starts today!

There’s Nothing…

There’s nothing that sustained thought cannot overcome. Anyone who knows us, and works with us personally, knows that our #1 response to difficult questions or scenarios is “James 1:5” (actually, the long version is James 1:2-8).  If you ask for wisdom, He will give it to you. You can also read any Napoleon Hill book, and you’ll inevitably find a section talking about the power of the mind and sustained thought. We have been given such a gift with our minds, so whenever we face trials and tribulations of any kind, we rejoice because we know that if we just keep asking, the answers will come.  Nothing is impossible.

When You Know…

When you know you’ve already won, nothing else matters. This is absolute core to who we are and the decisions we make.  Take the three points listed above. Positivity, Sowing seeds, and the power of your mind. Put those all together, and we start to paint a picture that inevitably lets us know we can get through anything.  We can have peace walking through any fire because we know the outcome. We win.

This is how we decided to navigate and “watch” life.  We’ve already won, and guess what, so have you! We know the end of the story.  When we shut the escape routes behind us, and burn the ships, the only direction we can go is forward.  When we’ve already claimed victory, despite every setback, we start to realize our true potential. It’s incredible what we can do when we walk in victory every single day!

Our challenge to you is to start living your life with a renewed perspective.  There will be times that get you down, and times where opportunities are missed, where heartache begins to set in.  You may fall short, or unknowingly slip into “average thinking” for a short period of time. However, through it all, there is absolute victory on the other side, because God has great plans for you! (read Jeremiah 29:11)
